Carrots: Why You Should Add Them to Your Juicing Plan

Carrots are typical ingredients in everyday cooking, and it’s rare for any household fridge to not hold carrots at least once a week. This wonderful vegetable is inexpensive and yet power-packed with so many healthy nutrients, so indeed it’s not a surprise that carrots are popular. Besides cooking, carrots can also be included in a juicing plan.

Why Use Carrots for Juicing?

There’s a reason why people often associate carrot sticks with dieting and health. Some of the reasons why carrots are must-haves in anybody’s diet are:

  • Carrots have beta-carotene that protects the surface cells around the internal organs, which reduces the possibility of cancer growth in these organs.
  • Carrots are great for detoxifying the liver as well as some other organs.
  • Carrots provide ample supply of vitamin B, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, and lots of important minerals like folate, iron, and calcium.
  • Carrots are extremely low in calories; one large carrot contains only about 30 calories. Even though they are low in calories, they are filling because they are rich in fiber, which can keep you full for a longer amount of time. (Note: the fiber is separated once you juice the carrot).
  • In the sense of juicing, carrots are a great base to any juicing combination as they have a neutral, slightly sweet taste that can mix well with the taste of almost any other fruit or vegetable.

Drawbacks of Using Carrots in Juicing

There are pretty much none! Carrots are cheap, tasty, and a must-have for avid juicers. They do carry the usual risks of bacterial contamination if you don’t clean them properly before juicing, but that applies for all other fresh produce you use for juicing. Just wash them cleanly before juicing and you’ll be fine. The only note here is that if you are diabetic, consult with your doctor how many carrots you can have a day because carrots do have a certain amount of natural sugars in them which can spike blood sugar. Eating raw carrots is generally safer than juicing them in some circumstances as the fiber slows the absorption of sugar and also encourages some to be discarded.
